Mom to Mom Group Forming

Calling all moms! If you would like to help a new mom to succeed in her role as a parent, and have a little time to spare each week, there is a new group being formed called "Mom to Mom." Mentors are needed to offer guidance and encouragement to new moms. A training for mentors will be held at Safe Passage Family Resource Center, 208 Dana St., on Wednesday, Aug. 1 from 9am to 3pm. The training is free and lunch will be provided. For more info call 961-3605.

Elk Fire Dept BBQ

The annual Summer BBQ will be held in Elk on July 28 from noon till 4pm at the Greenwood/Elk Community Center. There will be tri-tip, chicken, veggies, side dishes & homemade desserts. Also enjoy live music, activities for kids, raffle prizes, and no-host bar featuring Elk's famous Margaritas! Tickets are $15 and $7.50 for kids ages 7-12 (under 7 free). All proceeds benefit the Elk Volunteer Fire Department.

Elk Gallery Opening July 21

New Members and Old Friends
The Elk Studio Gallery is delighted to announce a show of work by four artists new to the gallery, Nicholas Collins a print maker, Denise De Luise and Hugh Foster, both photographers and Jim Vickery who is a painter. There will be an opening reception on Saturday July 21st, from 5-7 pm for the exhibit, which runs through August 15th. Immediately following the reception, local favorites Peter Lit and Stuart Greenberg will give a poetry reading, before wine tasting by Lazy Creek Vineyards and 'Treats and Sweets' by Sharon Garner. Mendocino Arts Summer Showcase

The Mendocino Arts Summer Showcase will host several events this summer -- promising cool art, cool music and cool breezes! On July 14, "Second Saturday," from Noon to 1pm don't miss the 36th annual Mendocino Art Auction Preview Reception to be held at The Mendocino Art center, followed immediately by the Art Auction itself. And from 10am - 5pm on July 14th and 15th, be sure to attend the Mendocino Art Center's 48th Annual Summer Arts & Crafts Fair, complete with fine arts and crafts for sale, live music and goodies. Sure to be fun for the whole family!
